IARS is pleased to announce its next CPD accredited face-to-face training on equipping professionals to respond to LGBTIQ+ refugees' needs. The workshop aims to increase knowledge, skills, and competence of professionals and volunteers who may be in contact with LGBTIQ+ refugees and migrants in their work capacity.
The training will focus on the following areas.
o Legal frameworks to understand refugee protection & why LGBTIQ+ people may need international protection;
o Introduction to sexual orientation and gender identity-SOGI Claims procedures (UK);
o Understanding of challenges relating to specific SOGI Claims;
o understanding the importance of support offered by and for LGBTIQ+ refugees / migrants
It will take place on Thursday, 10th of May 2018 from 10 AM to 5 PM and will be led by
Aderonke Apata – Human Rights Activist, Feminist, LGBT Equality Advocate and LGBTI asylum campaigner for LGBTI people seeking asylum in the UK; whom herself got granted asylum after a 13-year battle; and
Rosa Heimer – Equalities Projects Coordinator @ IARS
